Walawaani

It’s been a challenging start to 2020 for our community in the southern highlands. Where we live in Bowral has been safe however many of our friends in the nearby villages have had to relocate and some have lost everything. At one point we were housing an additional 2 people, 4 dogs, 2 cats and 1 fish in our tiny cottage! Hopefully we can get some rain and much needed relief soon :) Our hearts go out to some of the venues also that have lost everything and the couples who have planned their wedding at these locations. In all of this upheaval and uncertainty, we see communities coming together as well as venues and vendors jumping in at the last minute to help out, which was the case with our first wedding of 2020. The first wedding of the decade was that of Kathleen and Martin, a small intimate celebration with many surprise guests, such as the performers from Djiriba Waagura, who jumped in at the very last minute to fill in for the original dances who had to cancel as they were cut off by the bushfires (I will track down their names). The team from Djiriba Waagura certainly saved the day and delivered this incredibly moving performance and welcome. It was a privilege to capture and something we would love to see at every wedding. Enjoy and share :) Walawaani.
